Don’t Google it. That’s no fun!
I just re-watched one of my all-time favorite westerns, Tombstone. I bet you’ve seen it too, but how long has it been? See if you can pick the one movie fact from the list below that IS NOT true.
Hit reply and let me know which one it is… or if you’re stumped, let me know that too.
Legendary actor Charlton Heston, best known for The Ten Commandments, played a bit part in Tombstone
Tombstone is a Christmas movie… because it premiered on Christmas Day, 1993
Two movies about Wyatt Earp came out within a year, one starring Kurt Russell, the other Kevin Costner
Dana Carvey, star of Northern Exposure, played Wyatt Earp’s love interest
It cost about $25 million to make Tombstone
Kurt Russell didn’t just star in Tombstone, he helped guide the film through production
Kurt Russell’s mustache in the movie was 100% real
Val Kilmer lay in a bed of ice to prepare for a scene
Doc Holliday says he’ll die with his boots on… but on his deathbed, he looks down at his bare feet
Legendary actor Robert Mitchum narrated the opening of Tombstone
When I watched it decades ago, I overlooked many of its brilliant moments. But every time I watch it again, I catch something I missed before. Like the orange sunsets placed right before the story takes a turn.
Back when it came out, critics weren’t all that jazzed about Tombstone. Over time its stature has elevated. On my personal list of best westerns, it comes in at number 6. You can see my full countdown here: https://www.itsoag.com/movies.
If you’re like me, you treasure legendary classic westerns… but also appreciate great new classic westerns. If they ever go out of style, I’ll never know it.
Happy reading,
Dave
